Asus RT-AC1900P Performance
The Asus RT-AC1900P is straightforward to set up, as is the case with the majority of routers, because of the previously stated Setup Wizard. When the router is plugged in and connected to a host PC and the internet, a browser page is instantly launched, helping you to complete the Setup Wizard in minutes. In a matter of minutes, you may check the status of your internet connection and change the most basic wireless security settings.
The Asus RT-AC1900P performed admirably in our throughput performance testing, earning top marks. In our close-proximity (same-room) 2.4 GHz test, it scored 98Mbps, which was slightly faster than the Linksys EA7500 Max-Stream Asus RT-AC1900P MU-MIMO Gigabit Router (97.3 Mbps) and the Synology Router RT1900ac (95.9 Mbps), but a little slower than the D-Link AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router (DIR-885L/ R) ($ (108Mbps).
In our tests at 30 feet, the Asus RT-AC1900P (75.8 Mbps) outperformed the Linksys EA7500 (52.1 Mbps) and the Synology RT1900ac (45.6 Mbps), and it was slightly faster than the Trendnet TEW-827DRU (75.8 Mbps) (75.3 Mbps). The D-Link DIR885L/R took first place with an 85.5 Mbps score.
It was particularly remarkable how well the 5GHz band performed. Despite having a higher score of 533Mbps than the Synology Router RT1900ac (479Mbps) and the Linksys EA7500 (495Mbps), the Asus RT-AC1900P scored lower than the D-Link DIR-885L/ R (572Mbps) and the Trendnet TEW-827DRU (572Mbps) (590Mbps). In the 30-foot test, its throughput of 337Mbps came in second only behind the D-Link DIR-885L/ R (350Mbps). The Linksys EA7500 reached 298Mbps, the Synology RT1900ac got 231Mbps, and the Trendnet AC2600 StreamBoost MU-MIMO WiFi Router (TEW-827DRU)($ 79.99 at Amazon) got 260Mbps.
Transferring a 1.5 GB folder including audio, document, video, and photo files proved to be only a mediocre experience in terms of file transfer performance. In our write test, the Asus RT-AC1900P reached 34.2 MBps and in our read test, it achieved 35.1 MBps. These results were similar to those gotten by the D-Link DIR-885L/ R (33.2 MBps write and 44.1 MBps read), but they fell short of our leader, the Netgear Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Smart WiFi Router (R9000), which got 77.1 MBps and 89.
Verdict
The Asus RT-AC1900P offers a solid value proposition. My speed comparisons between this unit and the Synology RT-2600ac suggest that the Asus router offers better performance, at least in my crowded, wireless-heavy apartment. When it comes to light usage– working, streaming video online, and gaming– the difference between the two is practically non-existent. The Asus RT-AC1900P won out in our real-world file transfer tests, and it seems to deal with long ranges and walls between devices a little better.
