ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S Feature:
ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S is a WiFi 6 system with all new WiFi 6 technologies like OFDMA for improved efficiency and faster WiFi link speed. It will also benefit older Wireless AC devices since the mesh WiFi will provide a stronger WiFi coverage for your entire home. Normally, when the WiFi coverage is stronger, the speed and stability of the WiFi connection will improve even for older WiFi devices.
Performance wise, the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S uses the Broadcom 1.5 Ghz Quad-Core CPU which is the same CPU used in the more expensive ZenWiFi XT8 that we reviewed recently. ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S is a dual-band mesh WiFi system which can support as high as 1201Mbps on the 5Ghz WiFi network. The system will use the faster 5Ghz band as the WiFi backhaul most of the time and share it with the fronthaul network.
There are only 2 Gigabit LAN/WAN ports on each unit of the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S like most mesh WiFi systems in the market. If you need more ports, you’ll need to purchase a Gigabit switch. It’s also possible to configure the ZenWiFi XD4s into Ethernet backhaul mode or use the LAN ports on each unit to connect more devices.

ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S Performance
As a single router, the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S did well with my 2 × 2 Wi-Fi 6 clients, which could connect to it at 1.2 Gbps generally. At a close range, I got the sustained copy speed of some 830 Mbps. And at 40 feet (12 m) away, the connection averaged more than 640 Mbps. These sure were better than the TP-Link Deco X60, as well as a few dual-band routers.
In Wi-Fi 5 tests, my 4 × 4 client scored some 676 Mbps at close range and almost 550 Mbps father out. Incredibly those were better than the ZenWiFi AX XT8’s. The ZenWiFi AX Mini is a system. For this reason, the performance of the node (satellite) unit is essential. And as a system sans dedicated backhaul, it was clearly behind its older cousin.
Particularly, the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S indeed suffered from signal loss, registering the sustained speed of 390 Mbps and 309 Mbps at long and close ranges, respectively, when working with a 2 × 2 Wi-Fi 6 client.
My 3 × 3 Wi-Fi 5 client did slightly worse at 324 Mbps and 286 Mbps for long and close distances, respectively. Overall the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S was markedly faster than the TP-Link Deco X60 and slightly outdid other dual-band satellites, including the Asus RT-AX3000.

Verdict
The ASUS ZenWiFi XD4S is the most subdued AiMesh system to date, yet it handled to be the complete one by delivering all functions one might expect from a mesh of its type.
